We offer a skills sharing workshop environment for men of all ages and abilities. Our workshops are open for member use 3 days per week, with a wide range of tools and machinery available. Shed members work on their own projects, volunteer their time to undertake public commissions and engage in community based projects. Some members also mentor/tutor fellow members and community groups.
Norwich Men’s Shed is staffed almost entirely by volunteers and we simply could not operate without their passion, commitment and enthusiasm for our charitable objectives. Originally set up in 2013 by MensCraft, we later became an independent CIO (charity no. 1171796) – our organisations continue to work in partnership to promote men’s wellbeing at Norwich Men’s Centre.
We are grateful for support from National Lottery Awards for All and Norfolk Community Foundation – Birketts Fund.
Current activities include woodworking, woodturning, welding, blacksmithing, computing and electronics. Some of these activities are included within the membership fee, whilst others may incur an additional charge. Members wishing to use our tools and machinery must demonstrate their ability to do so safely – this includes an induction procedure for each machine.
Norwich Men’s Shed membership is open to any man (aged 18+) who is interested in accessing a workshop environment. Shedders come from all walks of life – some have skills they want to share, others because they want to learn new things, and some to simply socialise. Members span the novice, the diy-er, the keen hobbyist and the retired professional – all abilities and skillsets are welcome.
• To find out more please drop in during visitor hours – Tues/Wed 2pm-4pm – one of our members can show you around the Shed and answer any questions.
• If you are interested in joining you we will invite you to an induction where you will complete the membership paperwork.
• Our membership fees start at £5 a month – in addition to this financial subscription, all members are expected to make a positive contribution to Norwich Men’s Shed.
Our evening courses are open to both men and women. Courses are taught by members of Norwich Men’s Shed, so subjects available vary accordingly. Training within a small group offers a friendly informal learning experience and ensures that everyone receives individual tuition and guidance from our expert craftsmen.
Courses are set up according to need and current subjects available include carpentry, woodturning, traditional toy making, welding and blacksmithing.
Shed members volunteer their time to make and mend objects for the public. Profits from these commissions directly fund Norwich Men’s Shed facilities and running costs, and are crucial to our operating model. Please note we may not always have volunteers available with the required skill-sets, and there is often a waiting list due to ongoing demand.
